I've noticed a trend recently where posters with very few posts are making requests. I could fill most of them but I don't really want to encourage such poor forum etiquette. i.e. people new to the forum just dive in and make 10 meaningless 'thank-you' posts so it gives them access to links in people's signatures, then without any contributions themselves and usually without a proper search, they make their request.

I'm sure regular contributors enjoy sharing but we shouldn't be taken for granted.

I agree. Maybe some rule can be made that requests can be made by newbies after maybe 5-10 contributions.

I have an idea. Why not create a sticky thread labeled "User requests". Any request posted outside this particular thread should be deleted. When you top posters are in a good mood, you can check the requests from time to time and respond to them if you like.

I would like to apologize for making a request. I am new to this forum and right now I am still looking at who has posted what. I dont want to post a video that someone else has posted. Thanks for making me and other new members welcome.

I see your point scotinexile; but youre always gonna have people that use and abuse others generosity Also, Ive made a few contributions since becoming a member of this great group and Ive certainly made 1 or 2 requests
Im all for some form of 'screening' Perhaps something along the lines of some yahoo groups, like submitting 5 pics and maybe a link before membership is approved? Just a thought

I agree with you scotinexile.

The first part of the forum rules says "10. Don't ever request anything unless you have started 25 usefull threads - 1 warning". Maybe the newbies don't read the rules or they just simply don't understand what they are reading.
I also think that the rank or member level or what ever you call it (I have bad english, sorry) should be depended on usefull threads not all posts. It seems to me that there is lot of members who only post replies to threads. I don't mind if somebody doesn't share anything because there could be plenty of reasons for that. However they should stay in junior rank until they have a certain number of threads (shared pics, movies or threads in talk section).
