Hello. I would like to split some videos into smaller clips. For example, I would like to cut out 5 minutes in the middle of a 30 minute video. What software do i need?

Thanks.

I have the same problem. There's a 2 hour movie and only 5 minutes of action will get me off.

I tried this freeware. The problem is after I trim the movie, the 5 minute clip moves like super speed, almost like a silent movie. Let me know if you have the same problem.

If the movie is in avi/divx/xvid format then try Virtualdub (freeware) http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/showsoftware_virtualdub_346.html Open the file you want to edit , select Direct Stream Copy from both the Video and Audio options , select the "Set Selection Start" and "Set Selection End" points and then "Save As Avi" There is also support for mpeg 2 , asf and wmv though I haven't tried these

I use HJSpilt for these things. Its freeware and works great and is easy to use:

http://www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/

this is a link to the site. Here you can download the freeware and you can also download a manual if you dont understand how it works. Good luck with it...

You can download HJSplit here too:

This one you don't have to install.
Just download and use it.

I may be missing something but I'm trying to cut and save (anal sex) scene at 05:02 to 08:30 but HJSplit only allows me to cut or split in terms of Kbytes or Mbytes. There's also nothing in the manual (http://www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/manual/) about minute to Kbytes conversion. Thanks in advance.

I use the Movie Maker provided by Micro Soft. I find it very easy to use. Its only drawback is that it only works with a limited number of file formats.

Sorry guys...just saw this at the office and could not rush to this board to tell you all about it. The software is for watermarking your videos but has cutting feature as a side line. This site gives out free promotional software that you have 24 hours to download.

Split your video files into several parts

Video splitting allows making a set of small, easy to download files from a long video that would otherwise be impossible to download. You can split it Automatically (by setting number of parts and a duration of each clip) or Manually (by setting start and end points for every part). If you need to publish your movie to the Web, you should think that downloading the whole movie is not convenient, so it is recommended to upload long videos spitted into several parts. Also this feature is very useful when you need to send interesting part of your movie in the email. Split it NOW>> (http://www.videowatermarkfactory.com/download/videowatermarkfactory_setup.exe)

I take it back. I've downloaded but can't seem to cut the movie at the position I want. I'll have to get back to you on this.

Also the other software posted are also not free. I might have to get it off Bittourent.
